ISO 14126 Method 1 B Test Fixture

Fibre-Reinforced Plastic Composites - Determination of Compressive Properties in the In-Plane Direction

The load is applied to the specimen by shear through the faces of the end tabs. it is permissible to use different types of grip and sleeve (trapezoidal, for example). Aligned hydraulic grips in aligned test machines are also acceptable.
Noogta ASTM D3410 IITRI Compression Test Grip Meets the Requirement for the ISO 14126 Method 1 B Test Standards.

Test Specimen Dimensions
The specimen shall be straight-sided and of rectangular cross-section, with the dimensions given in Table. End tabs shall be used if necessary to avoid failure at the loaded ends of the specimen.

Type A specimen
The testing sample shall be straight-sided and of rectangular cross-section.
Type B specimen
The specimen shall be straight-sided and of rectangular cross-section, with the dimensions given in Table below. End tabs shall be used if is it necessary to avoid failure at the loaded ends of the specimen.

ISO 14126 Test Procedure
1) If the test at high or low temperatures is decided by the concerned, perform the test in the environmental conditions given in the standard.
2) Measure the width b to 0.1mm and thickness h to 0.02mm of each test sample.
3) Attach the strain gauges or extensometers to the sample and prepare the necessary strain recorder. Strain measurements from two directions (one on each side of the sample, i.e., back-to-back) are required to ensure that column bending does not occur. Euler sprain is considered detected if the strain in the opposite face increases rapidly while the strain in one face reverses (decreases).
In tests performed with more than 5 specimens, tests can be performed without strain gauges from 2 directions if the conditions given below are met.
i) The first five specimens were shown to fail at a bending strain less than the value given in 9.8 using successive strain measurements;
ii) No change in test conditions (eg batch, sample type, test conditions, operator, test equipment, etc.);
iii) Tests are performed for a short period of time without disturbing fixture alignment.
In such cases the modulus can be obtained from a single strain measurement if necessary.
The change in procedure should be reported in the test report.
4) The sample can be mounted on the clamping fixture and the tests can be started.

TEST RESULTS
compressive strength
compressive modulus
longitudinal strains at failure
compressive failure strain
are the compressive properties that can be calculated with ISO 14126 testing standard.
